Yes. In many cases, the equity in your land can satisfy all or part of your required down payment. Every situation is a little different, so Chelsea's team will review your specific scenario.
Do I need to own land before applying?
No. You can already own land, be under contract to purchase land, or finance the land and construction together with many One-Time Close loan programs.
Can I finance the land and construction in one loan?
Yes. Many programs allow you to purchase the land and build your home using a single One-Time Close loan.
How much money do I need down?
It depends on the loan program. VA-eligible borrowers may qualify for no down payment. FHA typically requires 3.5%, while Conventional programs can vary. Existing land equity may also help satisfy your down payment requirement.
Do I make mortgage payments while my home is being built?
It depends on the loan type. FHA and VA One-Time Close loans typically roll the construction interest into the loan, meaning most borrowers do not make monthly mortgage payments during construction. Conventional construction loans generally require interest-only payments during the build.
